VICTORIA _ A northern B.C. First Nation that filed a lawsuit against the province and BC Hydro alleging the W.A.C. Bennett Dam and Williston Reservoir flooded its community has settled out of court. The Tsay Keh Dene First Nation has accepted an agreement that provides it with one-time payments totalling $20.9 million, as well as annual payments of approximately $2 million. |

MEMRAMCOOK, N.B. _ Canadians from all walks of life, among them some of the country's best-known politicians, paid their final respects Friday to Romeo LeBlanc, Canada's 25th governor general. Dignitaries, including Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean, Prime Minister Stephen Harper and one of his predecessors, Jean Chretien, began arriving for the state funeral for LeBlanc two hours before the Roman Catholic mass began. |

WELLINGTON, New Zealand _ New Zealand should scrap a contentious 2004 law that angered indigenous Maori by making the nation's coastline public property, a government review board said Wednesday. The Foreshore and Seabed Act failed to recognize Maori property rights as established by the courts and advanced the general interests of the public at the expense of the natives, a three-member government-appointed panel said in its report, urging the government to repeal the law. |
